Requirements

For High School Students:
  • Currently enrolled in, or be willing to transfer to, an LAUSD school
  • Have completed this free application to the LA Community College District and have an 88 student ID number
  • Possess a sincere desire to become a law enforcement officer and planning on a career within the criminal justice system
  • Completed the 11th grade with a minimum of 170 high school credits
  • Minimum 2.5 GPA; 3.0 GPA preferred
  • Completed all required high school courses in Math, Science, Visual and Performing Arts, Health, U.S. History, World History, English grades 9-11, and at least two semesters of Physical Education.
  • Parent and counselor’s approval and letter of recommendation
  • Agree to attend mandatory orientation
  • Currently participating in LAPD Cadets or other Law Enforcement youth program, or currently enrolled in a Los Angeles Police Academy Magnet School, or be recommended by a law enforcement officer or other official who can vouch for your character and commitment to the law enforcement profession
For College Students:
  • Currently enrolled in an LACCD community college and have an 88 student ID number, or have completed this free application to the LACCD at West LA College
  • Possess a High School diploma or GED
  • Parent and counselor’s approval and letter of recommendation
  • Agree to attend mandatory orientation
  • Currently participating in or recently graduated from LAPD Cadets or other Law Enforcement youth program, or currently enrolled or recently graduated from a Los Angeles Police Academy Magnet School, or be recommended by a law enforcement officer or other official who can vouch for your character and commitment to the law enforcement profession

NOTE:

  • Both high school and college students must be free of any felony convictions or certain misdemeanor convictions that would prevent them from qualifying for peace officer status in California.
  • All prospective students will be subject to background screenings, interviews, and physical fitness tests.
